Overview
Choosing an engineering degree course means being willing to play an important part in our growing and fast developing society. Engineering is the right choice for prospective student
with a strong interest not only in scientific subjects but also in their application and with a “problem solving” attitude. The Faculty of Engineering at University of Pavia also offers an highly effective teaching by professors with a strong scientific background and a direct connection
with the economic environment: this two characteristics make the scientific research and teaching at the Faculty of Engineering constantly linked to a growing industry.
Bioengineering, or Biomedical Engineering, has its roots in the knowledge and expertise of a number applied sciences (electronic, automation, informatics, medicine, economics) and it has been evolving in a fast growing market sector. The sector of biomedical equipment has also been growing fast in last decades and its growth is still going on. Even more impressive has been the growth of biomedical equipment developed on ICT technologies. A Bioengineer needs many different skills: the ability to contribute to the biomedical research and to the clinical practice; the technological knowledge necessary to develop innovative solutions for the health care industry.
This bachelor’ degree course aims to train professionals able to work in management, design, production or research and development in a variety of industries and health care sectors.

Career opportunities
Bioengineering graduates are well placed to work in private and public healthcare industry, a variety of biomedical industries on medical devices, diagnostics, genetics, healthcare industry support, pharmaceutical manufacture, drug discovery, environmental remediation, or agricultural advancement. There is also a growing demands for engineers in the management of biomedical equipment and ICT supports for medical and healthcare activities so that in the last
decades job offers for biomedical engineers have grown of 60 %.
