Overview

The degree course aims to provide basic knowledge in sectors of music theory and history of music, as well as skills on the instruments and methodologies of musical philology, systematic musicology and sectors aimed at the protection, management and use of musical assets (theaters, libraries, musea, concert organizations and media).
The set of training activities defines the cultural profile of a graduate able to carry out professional activities in the fields of conservation, management, promotion, production and enhancement of the musical heritage and to operate both in public bodies (schools, libraries and documentation centers, theaters, museums, radio and television broadcasters, newspapers, organizers of concerts), and private companies (publishing houses and record companies, artistic companies, software houses).
The degree course also aims to provide the knowledge on which to base the subsequent investigations within a master’s degree.
Graduates in “Musicologia” will be able to find jobs that are part of their skills: in specialist and non-public libraries, both public and private; archives of large institutions; radio and television broadcasters, theaters, press offices, publishing houses and record companies, media and concert programming, musea and collections of musical instruments, in studying, cataloging, conservation, promotion and enhancement of musical cultural heritage.
The venue of the course is the city of Cremona.

Career opportunities

The graduate in Musicologia has the necessary skills to carry out professional activities in conservation, management, promotion, production and enhancement of the musical heritage and to operate both in public bodies (schools, libraries and documentation centers, theaters, musea, radio and television broadcasters, newspapers, organizers of concerts), both private (publishing houses and record companies, artistic companies, software houses).
The graduate may also continue their preparation via the Master’s Degree, in order to deepen the skills in preparation for the profession. Following an appropriate evaluation, graduates may also continue their studies in the Institutes of Higher Music Education (Conservatori and Music Institutes).
Graduates in Musicologia might find positions such as :
- Public and private libraries holding a musical section or keeping musical funds of historical or documentary value;
- archives of great musical institutions;
- public and private radio and television broadcasters;
- lyrical and traditional theaters;
- press offices of musical institutions or otherwise involved in the organization of musical events;
- generalist and specialized publishers in the music sector, or in record production;
- information organs, media, concerts and music programming in general;
- musea and collections of musical instruments;
- every area involving studying, cataloging, preserving, protecting, promoting and enhancing the musical cultural heritage.
