Overview
The main objective of the Master’s Degree in “Scienze Fisiche” is to provide a cultural and methodological preparation suitable for research activities and the immediate introduction into the world of work in the traditional sectors of physics graduates.
It is planned to provide an in-depth and flexible training, attentive to the latest developments in scientific research and technology; a solid cultural preparation in the various fields of modern physics and in its theoretical, experimental and applicative aspects, as well as a solid mastery of the method of scientific investigation; an in-depth knowledge of measuring instruments and data analysis techniques as well as the necessary knowledge of mathematical and It support tools.
The students who will obtain the MSc title in “Scienze Fisiche” will be able to operate with wide autonomy, even assuming responsibility for projects in the field of research and scientific and technological innovation; to use the knowledge acquired, depending on the curriculum, for the management and design of measuring instruments or for the modeling of complex systems in different disciplinary fields.
Graduates of the class will be able to carry out professional activities in all areas that require mastery of the scientific methods, specific technical-scientific skills and ability to model complex phenomena. In particular, among the activities that the graduates in Physical Sciences will be able to perform, we indicate the management and design of technologies in occupational areas with high scientific, technological and cultural content in the sectors of industry, energy, the environment, health, cultural heritage and public administration.
Graduates of the class will also be able to deal with the high level dissemination of scientific culture, with particular reference to the theoretical, experimental and applicative aspects of the most recent developments in scientific research.
The course is divided into five courses:
Physics of Matter, Theoretical Physics, Biological Physics, Nuclear and Subnuclear Physics, Didactics and History of Physics.
In relation to the specific objectives of each path, the master’s degree courses of the class include activities aimed at the acquisition of in-depth knowledge of quantum mechanics, the structure of matter, nuclear and subnuclear physics, astronomy and astrophysics and other aspects of modern physics. It also provides for adequate laboratory activities, in particular dedicated to the operational knowledge of the most recent and sophisticated experimental methods, to the measurement and analysis and processing of data and to the knowledge of numerical and symbolic calculation techniques.
Graduates may perform external activities such as training internships in laboratories of research institutions, industries, companies, public administration structures, as well as study visits at other Italian and foreign universities, also in the framework of international agreements.
The teaching organization is set up in such a way that the time commitment for the study, the teaching load of the individual training activities and the procedures for examining the exam allow the average student to obtain a degree with a solid preparation in the two years required by the course.
