Overview
The degree course in “Scienze e Tecnologie per la Natura”, is activated at the Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences (DSTA) of the University of Pavia.
The standard duration of the degree course is three years.
The student who wants to acquire a naturalistic education finds in Pavia the opportunity to study and carry out research in a welcoming and long-standing environment.
The three-year degree in Science and technology for nature forms naturalist’s professionals.
The course offers a cultural education oriented to a systemic view of the natural environment, described and interpreted through a good practice of the scientific method, applied to the analysis of the components and factors that underlie processes, systems and problems.
Prepares to perform detection, classification and interpretation of abiotic and biotic components present in natural ecosystems; provides the scientific basis for drawing up impact assessments and formulating management proposals, with the aim of conserving and / or improving natural systems.
The Didactic Council of Sciences and Technologies coordinate the teaching organization, governed by specific Regulations, by the Statute of the University of Pavia, by the University Educational Regulations, by the Student Regulations, for the Environment and Nature.
Lessons are organized in frontal lessons, workshops, and exercises. Of the 180 credits to be obtained to obtain the Bachelor’s degree, 6 CFU are dedicated to the curricular internship and 3 CFU to the final exam, 159 CFU are represented by basic, characterizing and similar courses, while 12 CFU are dedicated to courses free choice. Of the latter, for the academic year, 2018/19 are offered 11 lessons from the course of study itself.
There are numerous courses that provide practical laboratory activities and different are the excursions in natural environments and visits to museums / centers of a naturalistic scientific nature, provided to support teaching. The degree program includes a curricular training internship (150 hours) that can be carried out outside the University in public or private facilities, in Italy or abroad, based on specific agreements or internally in the University’s laboratories.
The degree program adheres to the community mobility programs: students can spend a period abroad to attend classes or carry out the internship.
The degree course ensures the maturation of the credits necessary for enrollment in master’s degrees and in terms of content, in particular, for the master’s degree course in Sciences of Nature.
Since 2016, a special agreement between the University of Pavia and the Professional Association of Agrotechnical and Agrotechnical graduates has been in force, thanks to which the credits earned during the 3 years of the degree course, including the curricular internship, are recognized in the end to take the State exam for enrollment in the Register.
Graduates find professional opportunities in the management of parks and nature reserves, naturalistic museums, environmental and agriculture departments, public and private research institutions.
The research activity, free of profession or employment in institutions and companies, is carried out in the sectors of the environment in general and in particular the study of natural resources, as well as naturalistic engineering, landscape and ornamental greenery and agro-food.
The course also lays the foundations for building a training course, which with the contribution of the master’s degree, can be oriented to teaching.
The undergraduate program is part of the ministerial plan for the National Scientific Degrees.

The main employment opportunities envisaged by the Degree courses are professional activities in various sectors, such as detection, classification, analysis, restoration and conservation of abiotic and biotic components of natural, aquatic and terrestrial ecosystems; parks and nature reserves, science musea and educational centers; analysis and monitoring of environmental systems and processes managed by human beings, with a view to sustainability and prevention, for the purpose of promoting the quality of the environment; localization, diagnostics, protection and recovery of environmental and cultural assets.
