Overview
The degree program in “Letteratura” is open to all those who have a strong interest in the learning and transmission of humanistic culture (historical, linguistic and literary, artistic and performative), within broad geographical and temporal parameters.
The main training objective is the acquisition of a critical instrumentation suitable for a historical and contextual reading of the various types of phenomena pertaining to the cultural areas indicated above.
The access requirement is a good basic linguistic and historical-literary culture, which is normally ensured by the indispensable secondary school diploma.
However, non-selective entrance tests are planned, aimed at evaluating the knowledge already possessed and in guiding the students who may be recognized as having a deficit in a specific area, concentrated in the first year.
All members can access the Erasmus action of the Socrates program, which is aimed at allowing study periods in universities of the participating European countries, with subsequent recognition of exams taken abroad.
A characteristic and highly qualifying aspect of our degree course in Literature is in the exceptional books collection collected in the humanities libraries, typical of a traditional European university.
The degree course in Literature is divided into two curricula:
Ancient literature and Modern literature
The numerous teachings concern, with specialized articulation: Italian, Latin and Greek literature; linguistics; geography; ancient (Greek, Roman and Near-Eastern), medieval, modern and contemporary history; archeology and history of art; entertainment; and archival studies.
Employment outcomes – which usually presuppose the completion of the humanistic training path with a relevant master’s degree – include the teaching of literary subjects; the conservation and teaching of cultural heritage; publishing and journalism; the management of libraries and archives; the organization of cultural, artistic and performative events; tourism promotion, and public relations.

Career opportunities
A first level degree in Lettere cannot and does not intend to have a professional character, but it is proposed as an essentially methodological training path, in order to associate adequate verbal and written communication skills to a broad basic humanistic culture.
The employment outlets will therefore have to be described according to the inevitably prolonged perspective of a complete course of university studies (three-year course in Humanities + Master’s Degree in Humanities).
In this perspective, the possible occupations may be: teaching (in middle schools), protection and promotion of archaeological and historical-artistic heritage and tourism (in the public and private spheres, also in the form of service cooperatives), management of libraries and archives, editorial work in publishing houses and newspapers, organization of exhibitions and shows, relations with staff in companies and public relations.
A degree in Lettere may also be the first stage of an academic course that, after obtaining a Master’s Degree, will find further development in a research doctorate and then, eventually, in university teaching.
