Overview

Organized by the Departments of Humanistic Studies, Political and Social Sciences, and with the collaboration of the Department of Law, this Master’s degree program completes student’s training in the disciplinary area of historical studies focused on Europe, with the aim of offering a critical and in-depth knowledge of a common and at the same time conflicting history.
It is a history that moves from the Middle Ages, creates and experiences the challenges of modernity, proceeds today in the tension between the construction of a common “house” and the often-divergent interests of the different European countries, in an incessant confrontation with the multiple cultures of the contemporary world.
The course is divided into three curricula:
medieval, modern-contemporary and historical-legal.
All curricula have a common basis in the teachings of medieval, modern and contemporary history, as well as in the improvement of a modern foreign language.
In each curriculum, knowledge specific subjects is then deepened, through courses on Church history, economic or archival history, history of political and international relations, and medieval and modern/contemporary law.
The teaching activities have a seminary nature, to encourage constant interaction between students and teachers. In the methodological teachings, particular attention is devoted to the use of the informatics tools of the historical area (knowledge and use of databases, bibliographies, collections of sources, etc.). The last semester of the two-year course is dedicated to the Master’s thesis.
All members can access Erasmus with the Socrates programs, aimed at allowing study periods in universities of participating European countries, with recognition of exams taken abroad.
